Plastering An Extension

These photos show how first the ceiling was plastered, then the walls of the extension were plastered with a base coat (Hardwall plaster), then allowed to dry before laying 2 coats of multi-finish plaster to a smooth finish.

Repairing A Wall Using Traditional Lime Plaster

 DAY 1
I,m currently in the process of repairing this damaged wall using the Traditonal Lime Plaster. There's an area on the wall that has been repaired (unsuccessfully) using Carlite Bonding. (Note: if possible I strongly recommend repairing using like for like materials). I removed this and replaced with a first backing coat of Haired Lime Plaster (this is a mixture of sand, lime & horsehair). This must now be allowed to dry and go hard before laying another coat.

DAY 2
Now that the first base coat of Lime Render is dry and hard (normally takes up to 7 days), a further coat can now be laid. This coat will be lightly scratched (as shown in the photo) to provide a key for the Lime Plaster finish coat.

DAY 3
Now the final base coat is dry and hard, the Lime Plaster Finish coat can be applied. As shown below.

Repairs To A Celing Using Traditional Lime Plaster

A water leak had caused damage to a ceiling in the room below. This original ceiling (the house is Victorian, built in 1880) had been constructed with wooden laths, then plastered with base coats of Lime Render Plaster (ie a mixture of Lime, Sand & Horsehair), then a top coat of Lime Finish plaster. If possible I like to repair these old ceilings using the exact same materials.
The photos here show how this was acheived.

Repairs To Wall Surrounding Pool

The wall surrounding this swimming pool was severely damaged and needed repairing. I first applied a base or "scratch" coat....allowing this to dry and harden before rendering the final top coat.
