Plastering Margate's Properties

The weather in Margate this spring has been fantastic and suddenly everyone wants plastering work around the house. I'm not complaining, a busy plasterer is a happy plasterer. www.plastering4u.com

Turner Contemporary Gallery

Interesting visit to the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate today. I was impressed with the building itself, designed by David Chipperfield, as well as  the artwork on display inside. For anybody who hasn't paid a visit to the gallery, then I suggest you do as there is much to see and appreciate. www.plastering4u.com

Dangers Of Asbestos In Buildings

I just wanted to share a little info about the dangers of knocking old plaster off walls where asbestos is present; I encountered this on a recent project. Asbestos-related diseases kill more people than any other single work-related cause. All types of asbestos can be dangerous if disturbed. The danger arises when asbestos fibres become airborne. They form a very fine dust. Breathing asbestos dust can cause serious damage to the lungs and cause cancer.
If asbestos is present on any project it must be safely removed by a licensed contractor.

Plastering Over Artex

Artex ceiling may have been the rage 30 years ago, but it's a design feature that hasn't stood the test of time.....So if you feel your artex ceiling is letting you down....I can help. I can soon plaster your ceiling to a fine, silky smooth finish, ready to accept your choice of paint. A clean flat ceiling can really transform the appearance of your room. www.plastering4u.com

Plastering DIY

With another Bank Holiday approaching, there will be many DIYers planning their plastering project by watching the "How To Plaster" dvd. Plastering is one of those trades that sensible DIYers will not tackle. It looks easy if you watch a plasterer and people think "I can do that". So off they go and spend £100 on plastering tools and a new mixer to mix up. I can see them - no trowel technique, incorrect mix, sometimes even incorrect plaster, no idea of setting time, suction control, trowel pressure or timing of each plastering stage.
The result is a mess when it dries! Wasted time and money spent on tools never to be used again...they may just as well called in a qualified plasterer to do the job. www.plastering4u.com

Refurbishing And Rendering

There are great advantages to refurbishing and rendering an exterior of a property, rather than demolishing and rebuilding. It's cheaper, it can be quicker and it's more environmentally friendly - as no rubble is added to landfill.
Here's an example of a project before and after

Moisture Resistant Plasterboard

I was asked an interesting plastering question today. A client is in the process of refurbishing their bathroom: "All the old plaster has been removed from the walls and ceiling, and is there anything that needs to be added before plastering"? My answer: "I would highly recommend you to use Gyproc Moisture resistant Plasterboards as they have water repellent additives in the core and paper lines. They are designed specifically for wet areas and where there is constant moisture in the air.
These boards can also be tiled directly onto without the aid of plaster. If you require these plasterboards to be plastered, it should be applied only to the face of the board and pre-treatment with Thistle Bond-it. www.plastering4u.com
