Rendering
Rendering is where a sand & cement mix is applied to exposed brickwork or blockwork, which then offers a good impermeable surface. To render a wall consists of the application of 2 layers, first the scratch coat which offers the second layer a flat and even surface, and also a good key. When the first coat is dry and hard, the second coat is applied and smoothed down to complete a quality finished surface. When totally dry the surface can be painted. An example of this can be viewed in the video below. www.plastering4u.com

The Most Sustainable Building Material: Lime
Lime has many amazing benefits
- Lime mortar is easy to remove from bricks and blocks allowing the reuse of the bricks
- During manufacture lime produces 20% less carbon dioxide than cement production
- Lime is essential in the building of any natural house (i.e. any house using straw bale, timber, earth etc)
- Lime is biodegradable
- Lime is burnt at a lower temperature than cement in the production process, therefore making lime production not only more environmentally friendly but also more economic as well
- Lime is recyclable

Lime Can Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
In this time of climate change it is reassuring to know that there is one product that is environmentally friendly and guaranteed to significantly reduce your carbon footprint. Lime mortar!
This amazing building material is actually carbon neutral. Like cement it gives off carbon dioxide during manufacture. Yet, unlike cement, lime mortar actually re-absorbs carbon dioxide when it sets! www.plastering4u.com

Using Lime For Plastering
Lime based plastering mortars are used extensively in the conservation and restoration of old and historic buildings. They offer an environmentally sustainable and friendly alternative to cement based plaster work. Using lime for plastering is enjoying a revival, not just in conservation work but also in more modern buildings and architectural designs. www.plastering4u.com

External Wall Insulation
External wall insulation improves weatherproofing, air tightness and sound resistance. One of the installation methods is to fix rigid insulation boards to the walls before applying a special type of render. The final coat can be laid to give a smooth, textured, tiled or even brick effect finish.
